I decided to put State Farm insurance to the test.  Will their 40% discount beat the rates of Geico Insurance in Cincinnati, Progressive Insurance in Cincinnati, or American Commerce Insurance in Cincinnati?

I obtained quotes for my personal automobile insurance from State Farm, Geico, and Progressive Direct using their online system.  Also reflected is the insurance company that currently underwrites my personal insurance. 

Please note the following results:

American Commerce Insurance Group in Cincinnati- $74.81 per month

Progressive Insurance in Cincinnati- $87.02 per month

GEICO insurance in Cincinnati – $104.64 per month

State Farm insurance in Cincinnati- $141.34 per month

Assuming that the online quotes are accurate, if I were to take advantage of State Farm’s 40% in discounts I would need to pay an additional $798.36 per year to be insured with State Farm Insurance in Cincinnati compared to what I currently pay right now!

My current coverage limits are $500,000 per person, $500,000 per accident, $500,000 for property damage, $50,000 for medical payments, $100 deductible comprehensive, $500 deductible collision, I have car rental, roadside assistance and loan gap coverage for both my vehicles, plus the business usage endorsement on my car insurance policy.

The State Farm car insurance quote in Cincinnati did not include loan gap coverage, or business usage. (So that would mean the State Farm car insurance quote in Cincinnati would be more than what is reflected in the quote that is listed.)

While it’s true that State Farm might offer discounts up to 40% on their insurance products what they’re not telling you is that every insurance company offers discounts, sometimes higher than 40%!

State Farm is attempting to brand an image with the public that not only are they the largest car insurer, but they are bigger than Geico and Progressive Insurance combined. Additionally State Farm may be attempting to imply that a 40% discount is bigger than a 15% savings from Geico.

But is there a hidden danger when you take this approach to picking an insurance company?

It is true, but there’s something that they are not telling you in these catchy advertisements.

The spokeswoman named Flo states confidently that we are the only company who lets you name your own price. 

What she doesn’t tell you in the television advertisement is that you could name your own price with any insurance company!

How could you name your own price with any insurance company selling car insurance in Cincinnati?  Simply tell the company or agent how much you want to spend!  It’s as simple as that!

Allstate Insurance has come up with an advertisement campaign Insurance Mayhem, Mayhem like me.

The actor is Dean Winters, and the advertisements are quite good in my opinion.

Allstate is subtly making inference to other insurance companies who let you name your own price, namely Progressive Insurance in Cincinnati.  You probably have watched the television commercial by Progressive Insurance where Flo (Progressives fictional spokeswoman) states quite excitingly that Progressive Insurance is the only company where you can name your own price on insurance.

In one particular Allstate Mayhem commercial, Dean Winters is a random windstorm, he says “shaky, shaky, shaky, shaky”, and with a wicked grin on his face he plummets to the ground on top of a car smashing it flat, the actor then expresses:

“If you named your own price on car insurance you could be picking up this tab yourself!”  Get Allstate you can be better protected from mayhem like me.”

Truth, Fiction or Somewhere in Between?

It’s true if you name your own price with Progressive Insurance in Cincinnati and deleted comprehensive coverage and a random windstorm caused a tree branch to smash your vehicle flat you would be picking up the tab. (That’s true)

But if you name your own price with Progressive Insurance in Cincinnati, and you had comprehensive coverage you would be covered. (Minus the deductible.)

When I first saw this commercial I thought what a very clever commercial because it subtly emphasizes the need for professional advice. (I’m not sure if that was its intended original purpose.)

And it’s my personal opinion that if you bought your insurance from Progressive Insurance in Cincinnati directly with the company and named your own price, because of a lack of insurance knowledge you could’ve left something important out from your coverage.

The Allstate Mayhem commercial is good, but what it fails to do is to more closely emphasize the need for professional advice from a local insurance agent in Cincinnati.
